Away From Home
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terribly frightened, but the angel reassured them. "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you good news of great joy for everyone! The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the city of David! And this is how you will recognize him: You will find a baby lying in a manger, wrapped snugly in strips of cloth!"
Merry Christmas from Africa. Most of you reading this have probably read this many times, some maybe not. Where I live rarely have they read it, most can’t read, those who can don’t have a Bible to read. Fortunately there are those who have heard the story and some who continue to tell the story.
Africa is a very spiritual place. We continue to learn about very strange and bizarre events that occur here which most of you would struggle to believe, that doesn’t make them any less real. But the story is why we have come.
To many of us this time of year has become about being with family, eating too much, giving gifts that most really can’t afford and maybe squeezing in a church service if there is time or enough energy. I say this not critically but as an observation in being in a place far from what we consider home. A friend shared part of a story with me recently that reminded me Christ too left home; he left The Father to come to a new place, for a purpose. We believe that purpose was to be The Savior of God’s own creation, man.
Occasionally we have to remind ourselves it is because of the story that we have come, with the hope of sharing the story. It is very easy for me to get wrapped up in the work of building a house. We pray you know the story and believe the story. If you are not sure find someone you can talk with about it or let us know and we might be able to assist you. If you already know the story your gift to us can be to share the story. You don’t have to come to Africa, although that would be great, just share the story.
Somehow at Christmas God seems to enlarge our hearts for others. Our prayer is God would give us a heart like His.
The scripture continues: Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, "This child will be rejected by many in Israel, and it will be their undoing. But he will be the greatest joy to many others.”
We pray Jesus is the source of your joy. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
Thank you to those who have given to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering of the Southern Baptist. All of the offering supports over 5000 missionaries working all over the world.
